• Consider using cordless window coverings, which are widely available and cost-efficient.

• Install retractable cords that remain at a constant length when the shade is not being operated, making them less accessible to children and pets.

• Secure all pull cords out of reach by using a cord cleat.

• In addition to the pull-cord, check to make sure your blinds have cord-stops, which prevent the inner cords from being pulled through.

•  If you move into a new home, ask when the window treatments were purchased and look for safety features.

• Ask when the window treatments at daycare facilities were installed and if the window treatments have the most current safety features.
